Abstract

(Current Biology 31, 643–649.e1–e3; February 8, 2021) As a result of a sample coding error, we, the authors, noticed that sample “AB-DPY2” was incorrectly identified in the analysis as Setophaga pharetra, whereas this sample’s correct species identification is Setophaga pityophila. This resulted in a closer relationship between these two species in the phylogenetic reconstruction (Figure 1). After identifying and correcting this mistake in a more recent phylogenic reconstruction (Bennett et al. 2025; https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.3003501), S. pharetra is instead sister to S. angelae. Supplemental Table S1 has been updated with the correct species ID in the Dryad repository (https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.n02v6wwvv) as well as the NCBI SRA database (accession: SAMN16998413). This error does not impact any of the central findings of this manuscript and we direct readers to the updated phylogeny in Bennett et al. for the most accurate phylogenetic hypothesis for this family. We also unintentionally omitted a funder from the originally published article and would now like to acknowledge that this work was supported by the NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Biology Program under grant no. 2010679 to M.D.B.
