Gaining access and trust in closed gaming communities requires insider knowledge and authentic engagement. Researchers in video game studies face unique challenges, including harassment, skepticism, and personal attacks. Addressing these challenges requires institutional support, ethical guidelines, and collaboration with the gaming industry and digital platforms.
