Abstract

Traffic crashes have become a leading cause of injury and death worldwide. This study analyzes crash data obtained from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) database based on the negative binomial model. A crash frequency model was constructed for daytime crashes. The significant factors in the daytime crash frequency model were the area type (rural/urban), speeding related, number of lanes, roadway alignment, roadway grade, surface type, weather condition, and gender.
