Abstract
This chapter uses the living lab framework to demonstrate how the NeoCITIES simulation can be used as an effective test bed for conducting team cognition research. A brief description of the simulation is provided, which includes the evolution of the software, simulation structure, interface, and gameplay. This chapter also highlights the efficacy of the simulation in studying teams through its use of flexible scenario scripting, ability to explore concepts that would be difficult or unethical to examine in the real world, and enhanced data collection abilities. It concludes with future research directions on how the simulation can be used to study multiple team cognition constructs, namely team mental models, team situation awareness, and team information sharing.
