N2 - Digital Twin-Internet of Things (DT-IoT) systems, which combine digital twin (DT) technology with the Internet of Things (IoT), emerged from the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and are reshaping the construction sector. They enable DT platforms to process and simulate real-time data delivered by IoT devices, thereby supporting informed decision-making throughout projects' lifecycles. This study investigates the perceived benefits and challenges of implementing DT-IoT systems in construction projects and analyzes how specific barriers hinder the realization of anticipated benefits. A survey questionnaire was developed and disseminated to construction professionals in the United States, and the 132 valid responses that were received were analyzed using Spearman's correlation to assess the relationships between 14 benefit variables and 17 challenge variables. The analysis identified 45 statistically significant correlations, including one moderate, 33 weak, and 11 very weak relationships. Shortages of skilled personnel, lack of team spirit, and absence of clear guidelines were consistently associated with reductions in benefits such as project quality, safety and efficiency, accelerated completion, automation, and asset management; stakeholder conflicts were negatively related to workforce productivity. The findings offer practical guidance for industry stakeholders, construction professionals, and policymakers who desire to address implementation barriers and enhance adoption strategies, ultimately improving construction projects' performance, efficiency, and sustainability.
