Abstract

We recently measured complete time- and frequency-resolved fluorescence spectra of 7AI in a number of alcohols and showed how past ambiguities could be traced to the fact that the ″normal″ fluorescence undergoes a time-dependent Stokes shift. This Stokes shift is a result of solvation energy relaxation and is not directly connected to the population kinetics of the reaction. We also have performed an extensive series of measurements of the proton transfer rate of 7AI as a function of alcohol, temperature, and solvent deuteration.
