Abstract

A method is described for extraction of neats foot oil from buffalo hooves by employing four different pressure levels of 3, 6, 9 and 12 lb/sq inch. The theoretical yield/kg of raw material was also studied by soxlet apparatus. The fatty acid composition of the neats foot oil under study and the commercial neats foot oil was studied by gas liquid chromatography (GLC). The average yield/kg at 12 lb pressure level in case of former group was 7. 88 g per cent and 9. 31 gm per cent in the later group. The statistical analysis revealed that age had significant effect on yield/kg of neats foot oil, while pressure levels did not show any effect, though there was significant numerical difference between pressures and corresponding yields obtained.
