Abstract
The perovskite relaxor ferroelectric lead magnesium niobate (PbMg 1 3Nb 2 3O3) is an important material because of its high dielectric constant and correspondingly large electrostrictive strains. However, it is difficult to prepare in polycrystalline ceramic form because of the formation of a stable pyrochlore phase. The reaction kinetics during calcining were investigated and an improved fabrication scheme was developed.
