Abstract

Tc-99m MAG3 is a tubular agent that is widely used for assessment of postrenal obstruction. However, this tracer has a variable amount of hepatobiliary excretion. This can render different patterns of gastrointestinal tracer distribution that can sometimes simulate renal or urinary tract pathology. This report presents a case where tracer accumulation in the gallbladder simulated urinary stasis in the upper pole calyces of the right kidney. Erroneous diagnoses can be avoided by obtaining additional images in anterior and right lateral projections.
