Feedback of manufacturing experience for integrated product and process design: Practical applications

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

Computer Integrated Manufacturing tools are used extensively in the electronics industry, yet in this industry manufacturing experience impacts design rules which lie outside the CIM system. Typically, changes or additions to design rules, when they result from manufacturing experience, are determined in an ad hoc way by committee. We propose a logistic regression model to capture quantitative relationships between product defects during manufacturing and the product and process design parameters. We describe a methodology to create or update design rules in a formal prescribed way based on the developed logistic regression model. The method and practical issues are illustrated using a realistic solder bridging problem.
