Abstract

Fiber optic bio and chemical sensors have been widely studied for the past 10 years. The availability of new types of optical fibers (such as IR fibers, photonic crystal fibers), new types of sources (such as solid-state light-emitting diodes [LEDs]) and detectors (such as highly sensitive point and array detectors), new sensing materials, and new technologies (such as nanotechnology) has rapidly advanced the performance and enabled new applications of bio and chemical sensors.
