Abstract

This paper discusses a method for using neural networks to provide predictive flight envelope limit information. The method is applied to provide a tactile cueing system for normal load factor and angle-of-attack buffet limits on the V-22 tilt-rotor aircraft. The system was tested in real-time piloted simulation. Results show the system allowed the pilot to maneuver along the flight envelope boundaries without exceeding the limits. Results indicate that this approach has the potential to expand the effective safe maneuvering flight envelope of aircraft with structural load limits.
