Abstract

This article will discuss the results of a study of the mechanisms of wear that occur during the thread cutting of API P110 and L80 pipe materials when lubricated using water-based metalworking fluids. It will also discuss the influence of insert wear on the quality of the thread surface produced. It has been seen that the type of metalworking fluid used impacts not only the degree, but the predominant mechanism, of wear that occurs during the operation. Water-based thread-cutting fluids function by providing lubrication and cooling to the operation, as well as serving to facilitate chip removal during and after the cutting process.
