Abstract
It is high time religion came out of the closet in language teaching and education. Although spiritual beliefs and experiences have always influenced teaching and scholarship, the modern educational system had not given us a space to talk about them. Education as it was conceived in the Western European enlightenment tradition assumed that religion constituted a form of harmful bias, blind adherence to tradition and unexamined knowledge that needed to be kept out of teaching and scholarship. However, recent philosophical changes suggest the significance of religion and spirituality in education. This book presents for consideration how teachers draw from spiritual experiences in their professional life, enabling us to develop a more critical, reflective and conscious teaching practice.
