Abstract

The positive and negative aspects of using formal group writing exercises in conjunction with laboratory reports to improve learning are discussed. The use of these reports in the engineering laboratory is essential in the development of engineering skills. In the formal group report in a laboratory course, the instructor identifies groups comprised of 3 or 4 students and provides students with a description of the laboratory project. The formal group report can be used as a positive and effective tool to develop writing and learning skills of the engineering student.
