Abstract
l-Hydrido-l-alkyltetrachlorocyclotriphosphazenes, N 3 P 3 CI 4 RH (II) (where R = CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , n-C 3 H 7 , i-C 3 H 7 . n-C 4 H 9 , i-C 4 H 9 , t-C 4 H 9 ), have been synthesized by the new reaction of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene. (NPCl 2 ) 3 , with alkyl Grignard reagents in the presence of [(n-C 4 H 9 ) 3 PCul] 4 . followed by treatment with 2-propanol. The structural characterization of these compounds is discussed together with a detailed study of the reaction mechanism that permits hydridophosphazene formation. These reactions proceed via the formation of metallophosphazene intermediates. The nature of these complexes is discussed.
