Abstract
A series of nanometer scale magnetic iron nitride films of nanometer scale were synthesized by the Ion Beam Enhanced Deposition (IBED) method. The composition and structure of the Fe-N films were assessed by TED, TEM and XRD. The magnetic properties were verified using Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VMS). The results show that it is possible to prepare films by IBED that contain the α"-Fe16N2 phase which possesses a high Ms value. The films consist of α-Fe, α"-Fe16N2, γ′-Fe4N and ∈-Fe2,3N phases or mixture of these phases under different deposition parameters. The magnetic properties depend dramatically on the phase structure and composition of films.
