Abstract

With the increased worldwide use of automated manufacturing systems involving robots, a need exists for a quantitative modeling scheme for the design, analysis and control of these systems. This paper presents a modeling framework for the analysis of transfer lines and flexible manufacturing systems. It can be used to assess system reliability and performance. It can also be integrated with sensor feedback from system components on-line to predict failures and determine appropriate maintenance and tool replacement strategies.
