    Abstract

Algorithms for frequency domain optimization of the multistage separable FIR filter are presented. The major attribute of this two-dimensional digital filter structure is the parallelism of its design, which makes it an ideal candidate for parallel processing. This fact gives the filter a much higher throughput rate than other two-dimensional digital filter structures. Due to the nonlinear nature of the optimization problem, iterative algorithms are presented. The filter's parallelism, combined with the optimization algorithms, give an alternative filter structure having a high throughput rate while still maintaining a given measure of quality in the frequency domain.
