Abstract
The results from an experimental and numerical programme of investigation into the behaviour of prestressed grouted pile/platform leg connections are presented. It is shown that the ultimate strength is at least seven times that of a plain pipe connection, which implies that prestressed connections can be used to great advantage for deep water platforms and repair of damaged tubulars. Two prestressing techniques were used to induce a state of triaxial confinement in the grout annulus. A total of eight large scale models were tested under monotonically increasing push out load. The geometries used and grout mix are typical of offshore construction. The experimental models were analyzed numerically using an advanced nonlinear finite element programme. The results obtained from numerical modelling compared very favourably with experimental data.
