N2 - Training personnel to operate yet-to-be built next-generation nuclear power plants creates interesting training challenges for utilities. Virtual reality technology can be used to create full-scale virtual mockups of the not-yet-built spaces so that training activities can be performed prior to construction. To do this, CAD-based product model data is translated and then shown in a CAVE VR display. Personnel can navigate the plant, interact with and identify components, and work in simulated radiation environments. Numerous classes of training activities are envisioned for the virtual environment by potential users of the technology.
