Abstract
A description is presented of a new method for preparing α-olefin polymers based upon the intermediacy of borane monomers and polymers. The value of this new method rests with the ″cleanliness″ and versatility of its chemistry. Not only can the borane derivatives be quantitatively carried through the Ziegler-Natta process, but they also can be quantitatively converted to a whole host of other functionalities. The focus of this study is the preparation and characterization of copolymers of α-olefins and borane monomers and the conversion of such borane copolymers to α-olefin-alcohol copolymers.
