Abstract
The utilization of functional polyphosphazenes in solid polymer electrolytes, liquid crystalline, NLO, and photochromic polymers, water soluble macromolecules, cross-linked materials, metal coordination, biocompatible materials, and in the development of tailored surfaces has been studied in this paper. The wide range of synthetic options in polyphosphazene chemistry is an advantage for the preparation of functional polymers. This process is aided by the inherent chemical stability of the inorganic backbone especially when it is protected by aryloxy side groups.
