Abstract
Cholelithiasis is a common condition present in 12 % of the adult population. Bariatric patients are at particular risk as factors associated with development of gallstones include obesity and rapid weight loss. For patients undergoing sleeve gastrectomy and adjustable gastric banding, management is similar to that of any other patient. Patients undergoing Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or duodenal switch require special considerations secondary to anatomic alterations. This chapter addresses issues unique to the bariatric patient related to diagnosis and timing of cholecystectomy and management options for choledocholithiasis.
