Abstract

One of the classes of bromonated flame-retardants, the bromonated diphenyl ethers, can present a challenge for gas chromatographic analysis. The number of congeners to be separated, combined with the high boiling points for the most heavily bromonated congeners, makes separation and quantitation of these compounds difficult. This paper will discuss a novel approach for the analysis of the bromonated diphenyl ethers using a newly developed capillary GC column and direct injection conversion liner. Data will be shown which demonstrates the success of this system by both GC-ECD and GC high resolution MS analysis. This configuration allows rapid, total analysis of polybromonated diphenyl ethers in a single chromatographic analysis.
