Abstract

This article provides information on generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). In particular, we summarize the current and past diagnostic criteria for GAD. We also provide data on the prevalence and course of GAD, its comorbidity, as well as theories on etiology and maintenance of GAD. In addition, we provide information on the treatment of GAD using cognitive behavioral therapy. We conclude with some future directions for research on GAD.
