Abstract

During the past decade, genetic algorithms (GA) are being used as an alternative in cell design. This study will make an extensive literature survey of genetic algorithm's application in cell formation. We gave a summary of the contrast of GA with other soft-computation approach. The summary and statistic analysis, from the viewpoint of the critical issue - representation is provided for the communication of problem and GA as well as guiding its perfect design. Also, all of prior representation methods are presented and their examples, advantage and disadvantage are compared with each other. Finally, the conclusions and future research are offered.
