Abstract

The conjugatemeshing face-gear pairs are implemented to high shaft angle intersecting axis gear trains such as the pericyclic transmission system. The generation of meshing face-gear tooth surfaces with a mutually conjugate spur shaper is presented. Principal geometric relations between meshing face gears and the shaper are developed based on fundamentals of gearing. The tooth geometry and the dimensions of the conjugate face-gear pair are established based on theory of gearing and differentiable geometry. Unloaded meshing kinematics of the face-gear to face-gear meshing is assessed. The tooth surface normal vectors, axodes of meshing, and the sliding velocities are illustrated. Numerical examples are conducted to present the geometry and kinematics of the meshing face-gear pairs.
