title = "Giant electric-field-induced strain in lead zirconate based antiferroelectrics",
abstract = "Antiferroelectric ceramics with a composition Pb0.99Nb0.02[(Zrx Sn1-x)1-y Tiy]0.98O3 PNZST were studied in terms of electric field induced strain properties. Electric field induced strain associated with a phase transition from antiferroelectric (AFE) to ferroelectric (FE) was discovered to reach more than 0.3% in magnitude. The electric field induced strain of the PNZST system was increased by changing the composition of the sample. The strain magnitude of PNZST increased with increasing Zr content. Acoustic emission (AE) due to the abrupt elastic strain change was measured. The AE generation associated with the AFE-FE transition was much less than that for the domain reversal in the ferroelectric phase; this suggests a rather high reliability of the antiferroelectric ceramics when driven by an electric field.",
