    Abstract

Glutathione (GSH) serves many important functions in the cell largely because, together with GSH reductase, it maintains a reducing environment for thiols and other intracellular constituents. Therefore, GSH serves to defend the cell against the continual oxidative onslaught caused by life with oxygen.
