Abstract

This paper discusses GTA-DCSP welding procedures for welding thick sections with the desirable low electrical resistivity in the weld region required for high purity aluminum stabilized superconducting devices. The RRR of welds in the as-welded and heat-treated conditions has been determined, and tungsten contamination of the 99. 999 plus % pure aluminum due to the tungsten welding electrode has been quantified.
