note = "Funding Information: Table 1 illustrates the research program being sponsored, in part, by the SWCC, and contrasts it to research recommended by the United States Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.) and the U.S. E.P.A. The SWCC has an aggressive program in place, which covers the majority of high priority topics suggested by both the U.S.D.A. and the U.S. E.P.A. Specifically, the SWCC is presently sponsoring 7 basic research projects as well as the review papers presented in this issue. The projects highlighted in Table 1 are currently underway under SWCC sponsorship. The basic research projects began in July, 1991. The next phase of research will probably address the needs italicized in the table. Funding Information: The Marketing Committee of the Council also sponsors 20 applied research projects in 10 states (bottom of Table 1). The applied research program began in 1992, with results expected in 1995. All totaled, the basic and applied research sponsored by the SWCC is funded at just under \$6 million.",
