Abstract

Through the telling of multiple narratives from her family, school, and higher education experiences, the author explores the habitus and social capital she developed growing up in a Dominican working-class family. In each story, the author highlights how her disposition was conducive to achieving academic success. The author also explores how discovering the writings of Black feminist scholars and the network of intellectuals in R.A.C.E. Mentoring validated the complexities of her intersecting identities.
