Abstract
Measurements of differential reflectivity (Z//D//R) in a squall line and an isolated storm on May 2, 1979 during SESAME support the use of this radar observable for detection of hail. Evidence for this occurred both in the frequency distribution of Z//D//R values in the squall line and in the spatial variability of Z//D//R. Z//D//R values outside the expected range for most rainfall. Refs.
