Abstract
It is known that quadratic modular number codes admit an unusual representation of complex numbers which leads to complete decoupling of the real and imaginary channels, thereby simplifying complex multiplication and providing error isolation between the channels. Also, it was shown recently that all moduli of the form 2**2 **n plus 1 admit a quadratic number system, and hence all binary word lengths with an odd number of bits can be used to realize the desireable features of a quadratic number code. The author discusses the design of a quadratic number code for these special moduli, and presents examples to illustrate how quadratic arithmetic is implemented in such systems.
