Abstract

This paper presents the experiment for determining the ratio of the heat transfer coefficient to the specific heat, h/Cp, for a carbon fiber bundle in epoxy resin. The experiment includes a calibration which relates fiber bundle temperature to electrical resistance when a low current is passed through the fiber tow. The fiber bundle is subjected to a rapid temperature change, and the electrical resistance is recorded as a function of time. Finally, the temperature-time response is used to determine h/Cp.
