Abstract
A six-degree-of-freedom simulation of helicopter roll-on takeoff is described. The simulation incorporates helicopter and landing gear dynamic models, as well as a simplified human pilot model, which is capable of performing the takeoff process in various ambient and runway conditions and for different helicopter configurations. This simulation is used to evaluate roll-on takeoff distances and carry out a simplified preliminary optimization to define takeoff techniques that reduce the roll-on takeoff distances.
