Abstract

Six degrees of freedom simulation of helicopter roll on takeoff is described. The simulation incorporates helicopter and landing gear dynamic models, as well as a simplified human pilot model which is capable of performing the takeoff process in various ambient and runway conditions, and for different helicopter configurations. This simulation is used in order to evaluate roll on takeoff distances and carry out a simplified preliminary optimization in order to define takeoff techniques that reduce the roll on takeoff distances.
