Henry James Framed: An Addendum

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Not long after Henry James Framed: Material Representations of the Master was published (2022), a previously unknown charcoal drawing of Henry James came up for auction. This early sketch of James was done by one of his Newport friends, Helena de Kay (later married to Richard Watson Gilder), probably in the Spring of 1872. As such, it would be the second known representation of James, done ten years after his first portrait was taken by John La Farge.
