Abstract
An application of optical tapers to receivers for atmospheric optical links is presented in this paper. The work is concerned with a simple optical receiver which has a high tolerance to angular misalignments, while supporting a high bit rate by using a photodiode with a small active area. Both the theoretical and the experimental parts of the work are described.
