Abstract

The aim of high definition television (HDTV) development is to construct a television system that can exhibit pictures with sensational reality, giving the viewer a sense of personal involvement in the scene being watched. It is an entirely new system that produces pictures that are more attractive and of higher quality than the conventional TV due to a combination of several features such as the highest possible spatial and temporal resolution, digital sound, and good control of display. Other benefits to viewing programs in high definition include clarity, sharpness, digital sound, wide-screen picture, picture-in-picture (PIP) and picture-outside-picture(POP). Satellite services are expected account for the largest share of world-wide HDTV households when compared to other platforms. In HDTV, programs are also delivered digitally by cable, satellite, or over-the-air transmission thereby reducing interference, ghost formation, and noise.
