Abstract

A new exponential-entropy gradient based discontinuity sensor has been developed for use in HPCMP CREATE-AV Kestrel COFFE on inviscid cases. The new sensor activates for shocks, rapid expansions, and other flow features where the grid is not sufficient to resolve the flow phenomena. This sensor is outlined herein, and it is employed on three test cases: a blunt-body bow shock at Mach 4, the planar Noh problem for Mach numbers 4 and 10, and the Mach 3 forward facing step of Woodward and Colella. The results of these test cases guided the recommendations for future work to enhance the sensor and artificial diffusion application.
