Abstract
Hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene undergoes a thermally induced ring-opening polymerization at temperatures above 210 degree C. Hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane also polymerizes at elevated temperatures, especially when an acidic or basic catalyst is used. Similarities exist between the mechanisms of polymerization for the two cyclic species. Since these two mechanisms are similar, it is possible that a polymerization or interaction could occur. Experiments were thus carried out to determine how the compounds reacted under conditions for thermal polymerization.
