Abstract
Optically transparent polycrystalline ceramics of PLZT and more recently PMN and PMN modified with La. were prepared by hot uniaxial pressing. Typically, excess PbO is used to promote grain growth and to compensate for volatility and reactivity to the surrounding medium. However, the addition of excess PbO in PMN results in a highly defective structure, as evident by a high degree of aging.
