Hot-wire anemometry: a method for the measurement of high frequency turbulent temperature fluctuations.

Abstract

A technique for the measurement of high frequency turbulent temperature fluctuations was developed and tested. It employed constant temperature anemometers to measure the instantaneous velocity and temperature simultaneously. Two parallel high wires operating at different wire temperatures at constant temperature mode are calibrated for velocity and temperature. A one equation (for each wire) describing the voltage output from the anemometer as a function of flow velocity and temperature was obtained. Later the technique was qualified by exposing the parallel wire probe to a flow of known temperature and velocity; and instantaneous output voltages are digitized and stored on a magnetic disk. Using a digital computer two equations are solved for two unknowns; mean and rms part of the velocity and temperature, were obtained. Results compare well with the known values. (A)
