Abstract
Why Count Mites? - Varroa mites (Varroa destructor) are here to stay and we, as beekeepers must learn to live with them. We now know that monitoring mites on a regular basis is essential to controlling them. Monitoring will give you an idea how fast varroa is reproducing in your colonies, and when is the best time to treat your colonies. In addition, monitoring mite levels is an important part of implementing and integrated pest management (IPM) approach for varroa.
