Abstract
The photographs are arranged thematically around the social milieu that prevailed in the anthracite region of Northeastern Pennysylvania. They depict work, family life, and education, and variously extol rich traditional values of the Old World and the business opportunities of the new. Ethnic life in this part of America was a rich mixture of living customs, sounds, smells and tastes intermixed with the seemingly endless regimen of hard work, American values and the hope that a future generation would eventually be able to enjoy the fruits of the new found land. -J.Sheail
