Abstract
THE profound effects of drought on modern ecosystems is widely appreciated. However, little attention has been paid to the palaeontological and geological consequences of drought; the few works1 which discuss drought in these terms are general. I wish to describe a sequence of events that may occur during a drought and the taphonomic implications of these events.
