Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common cancer in men and the eighth most common in women worldwide. Almost 600,000 new cases of HCC are diagnosed annually worldwide. Without therapy, the median length of survival is 6 months, and 5-year survival is a dismal 5%. Transplantation or resection results in the longest survival, but fewer than 20% of patients with HCC are surgical candidates. 1, 2.
