Abstract
The distributions of alkylbenzenes, alkyltoluenes and aryl isoprenoid hydrocarbons in rock extracts and related oils obtained using different fractionation procedures were compared. The application of the modified Later method could result in severely biased distortion of monoaromatic hydrocarbon distributions. The inadequate separation of saturated and monoaromatic hydrocarbons could lead to erroneous geochemical interpretations.
